Chicago police have arrested 16 people accused of stealing more than 100 cars in the city by applying "Car2Go" to rent a car.

The city police explained that most of the cars had been returned but not yet arrived, according to the Motor One website.

Daimler, the owner of the Mercedes brand, has launched the Car2Go application, which allows users to rent Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars. These cars can also be opened via smartphones.

Car2Go has announced that there are no electronic breaches or theft of data for its users and has temporarily suspended its services in Chicago temporarily until investigations are completed.

The company confirmed that thieves used fraudulent methods not detected to steal cars and that user accounts on the application did not penetrate.
